Southampton is home to more than 38,000 students studying at The University of Southampton and Southampton Solent University, and most of these choose student accommodation in the centre, despite the former university being based on campus outside the city.
Its central location is popular among all students, but particularly with the 8,000 international students who can easily head abroad by ferry or via its international airport and enjoy the experience of city centre living while at a UK University.
As well as having all the usual student haunts – bars, nightclubs, shops and restaurants – Southampton is also great for students who want to see more of England’s beautiful countryside.
With the city situated on the southern coast, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the harbour in the city, while you can also explore Hampshire’s breathtaking New Forest, walk around historic market towns Romsey and Stockbridge, take a ferry trip to the Isle of Wight, and visit Jane Austen’s house in nearby Chawton.
Of course, there’s plenty to do in the city itself, from spending your cash at the WestQuay Shopping Centre, going vintage shopping at its antiques bazaars, visit its Old Town, enjoy a cultural day out at Southampton City Art Gallery or brush up on your chart knowledge at one of its many music venues from Southampton Guildhall to The Cellar.
